Facilities

You will be staying in a triple shared room. The accommodation is arranged to be near to the international beach (two minutes walkable distance from the yoga shala. In this economic package, Vrinda school of yoga provides simple accommodation in one room three person separate beds. A private room is possible at an additional cost of USD 520.

Foundational practices and techniques

This section focuses on the core physical and energetic techniques that trainees must master. 

Asana (Yoga postures) 

  • Fundamental poses: Detailed study of all foundational postures, including standing poses, forward bends, backbends, twists, balancing poses, and inversions.
  • Alignment and technique: In-depth understanding of proper alignment to maximize benefits and prevent injury.
  • Variations and modifications: How to adapt poses for different body types, skill levels, and conditions like injuries or pregnancy.
  • Use of props: Instruction on how to use blocks, straps, and bolsters to support and enhance poses.
  • Sanskrit and English terminology: Familiarity with both the traditional Sanskrit names and common English translations for postures. 

Pranayama (Breathwork) 

  • Breathing mechanics: Understanding how breath affects the nervous system, energy levels, and mental state.
  • Core techniques: Practice of techniques such as Ujjayi (Victorious Breath), Nadi Shodhana (Alternate Nostril Breathing), and Kapalabhati (Skull-Shining Breath).
  • Yogic breathing: Mastering deep, diaphragmatic breathing. 

Meditation and deep relaxation 

  • Guided meditation: Practice and instruction on leading guided meditation sessions.
  • Mantra meditation: Introduction to mantra chanting and its use in meditation.
  • Yoga Nidra: Learning how to lead the deep, guided relaxation practice known as yogic sleep.

Yogic cleansing (Kriyas) 

  • Shatkarma: Introduction to traditional yogic cleansing techniques, such as Jala Neti (nasal cleansing) and Trataka (focused gazing).

This component provides the theoretical and ethical framework for teaching and living a yogic lifestyle. 

History and core texts 

  • Roots of yoga: A study of yoga’s evolution from ancient India to its modern form.
  • The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali: In-depth study of the eight limbs of yoga (Ashtanga Yoga): Yama, Niyama, Asana, Pranayama, Pratyahara, Dharana, Dhyana, and Samadhi.
  • The Bhagavad Gita: Exploration of the path of Karma (action), Bhakti (devotion), and Jnana (knowledge). 

Energetic anatomy 

  • Chakras and Nadis: Exploration of the main energy centers and channels in the body.
  • Koshas: Understanding the five layers of being, or sheaths of existence.
  • Gunas: Study of the three qualities of nature (Sattva, Rajas, and Tamas) and their effects on the mind. 

Ethics and lifestyle 

  • Yamas and Niyamas: Applying the ethical guidelines of non-violence, truthfulness, and contentment to life and teaching.
  • Role of a teacher: Exploring the responsibilities, boundaries, and ethical conduct required of a yoga teacher.
  • Yogic diet: Introduction to the concept of a sattvic (pure) diet. 

Anatomy and physiology

A practical study of the human body to ensure safe and effective teaching.

  • Physical anatomy: Key muscles, joints, and skeletal systems and their function in yoga postures.
  • Subtle anatomy: An understanding of the energy body, including chakras and nadis, and how it is affected by practice.
  • Biomechanics: Analysis of movement principles to protect joints and muscles.
  • Physiology of breath: The connection between the respiratory system and pranayama. 

Teaching methodology and practicum
